PARK. SOUTH 53, PARKERSBURG 28: Allison Crislip scored all 12 of her
points on four 3-pointers during an 18-0 third-quarter run for host
Parkersburg South (13-5). Kim Dent’s 12 points led the Big Reds (7-11).

PARKERSBURG — Allison Crislip got 3-hot.
The Parkersburg South senior standout drained four consecutive treys
during a third-quarter spurt as the Patriots rallied in the second half
to defeat Parkersburg High, 53-28, in girls’ basketball action at the
Rod Oldham Athletic Center Tuesday night.
“Sarah Harvey and Bethany (Harbour) worked the ball in there and saw me
open in the corner,” said Crislip, who finished with a game-high 12
points.
“They (Big Reds) were in man but they were playing off. Whenever Sarah
and Bethany drove in, they would kick it out to me.”
At the time of Crislip’s third-quarter streak, South — Class AAA, No. 6
with a 13-5 record — led PHS, 21-18. After the dust settled, the
Patriots stretched their advantage to 33-18.
“Allison saved our bacon in the third quarter; that’s a fact,” said PSHS
coach Scott Stephens.
“She only had one shot in the first half and we had to get her the
ball.”
Taylor Phillips added nine points, Kim Stephens chipped in with eight
markers, and Ali Morris had seven for the winners. Morris also finished
with five steals, and Harvey was credited with six assists.
PHS — which has now dropped eight straight and 13 of the last 14 games
in the crosstown series — had a six-game winning streak snapped. The Big
Reds led the Patriots at halftime, 16-15, but ended up being their own
worst enemy, committing 26 turnovers in the contest.
Kim Dent, with 12 points, was the only red and white double-digit
scorer.
“I was real tickled with our defense,” said PHS coach Don Stansberry.
“But it was the (South) press that killed us.
“And, when Crislip nailed those threes, that was the game right there.
That was it.”
Sparked by Dent’s six points, Parkersburg had the upper hand early,
staking itself to an 11-8 first-quarter advantage. With under a minute
left in the stanza, buckets by Kim Stephens and Phillips erased a
seven-point deficit.
In the second quarter, neither school was able to take care of the
basketball. PHS in fact turned the ball over 11 times, and attempted
only two shots (making one) in the period.
With 29 seconds remaining before halftime, Morris’s three-point play
gave South its first lead (15-14) of the contest. But at the buzzer,
Parkersburg’s Kacie Rader was fouled, and on the ensuing one-and-one
situation, she converted two clutch freebies to give the Big Reds a
16-15 advantage going into the locker room.
“That first half, we were just awful,” Scott Stephens said. “But give
PHS credit. Their defense has improved, and they were getting after it.
“We needed to make some adjustments at halftime.”
Early in the third quarter, Dent’s bucket in the paint gave PHS a
three-point cushion, 18-15. But after that Big Reds’ score, it was all
South.
Before Crislip went on a 3-point tear, Kayla Ayers — who grabbed a
team-high six caroms — Kim Stephens and Morris all scored to make it
21-18.
In the fourth quarter, Brittany Meadows scored five points coming off
the bench as the Patriots won going away.
South is scheduled to host Fairmont Senior Friday, while PHS entertains
Riverside in a Mountain State Athletic Conference tilt Thursday.
